Announcing 2008 as "Education Year", Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal, declared that after construction of infrastructure worth Rs billions and mega projects, he has decided to give special attention to education sector.
Under this commitment, construction of 40 modern campuses has been started in various parts of the city at a cost of Rs 800 million where 120 government schools will be upgraded and this would be the practical materialisation of dream. He stated this while talking to a delegation comprising Shehzad Roy, President Zindagi Trust and Sami Mustafa, Chairman Book Group.
Nazim Karachi said that City Government, instead of traditional yellow schools system of education, provide modern education to students which will be a gift for citizens of Karachi from the city government.
The city government, he said, would provide required funds for upgradation of these schools while philanthropists and organisations working in this field will also contribute. Nazim Karachi said that keeping the standard of well equipped City and Grammar schools in view, city government is setting up these 40 campuses having 120 government schools, which would be upgraded from all aspects and where children of common people would enjoy all facilities of private sector schools.
He said these schools will have their own syllabus and students studying there would not only be provided books and uniform but lunch as well so that children of poor people could benefit from all subjects including english and IT and new educational culture could promote in Karachi.
Mustafa Kamal said that city government is spending Rs 20 million on each campus. He said he has convened a special meeting of officials of Education department, Town Nazims and TMPs in which their opinion will be elicited.
Nazim Karachi said the way the Haq Parast leadership laid a network of development works in the city, his wish is to provide quality education to children of poor people same way so that they may not suffer from sense of deprivation.
He said that city government has already started international standard training of teachers for these campuses and they would be employed on appropriate salaries.
He said one group should assist in all matters including the establishment of these schools for which it is being provided space for office and monitoring. We all, particularly Book Group, should devise a system which no one could change and may last longer.
Chairman Book Group Sami Mustafa said that this glorious project and the dream of Nazim will certainly materialise and there will be no compromise on quality and rather the standard of these campuses will be so high that people will feel proud of them. Shehzad Roy said that Zindagi trust will extend all cooperation to city government for having good schools and provision of better educational facilities.
