Sialkot district in the northeast of the Punjab Province is situated at the foot of the snow-covered peaks of Kashmir near river Chenab. The Sialkot district is spread over an area of 3,016 square kilometres and consists of four tehsils, i e Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial while its total population is 272,348 according to the census of 1998.
The tehsil-wise population of the district is Sialkot tehsil urban population 339,876 and 768,568 rural, Sambrial tehsil urban 835,46 and rural 214,050, Daska tehsil urban 112,212 and 493,358 rural and tehsil Pasrur urban 760,89 and 535,782 rural according to the 1998 census.
There are five national and eleven provincial assembly seats in the district while total registered voters are 1475270 out of which 667241 are female voters according to computerised electoral rolls.
The highest ratio of female registered voters 128468 (for every one male, there is 0.871 female) in NA-110 that is the highest number while there are 125518 registered female voters (for every one male, there is 0.795 female) are in NA-113, which is the lowest number of registered voters in five constituencies of Sialkot district. The candidates of PML-N, PPP (P), PML-Q and some independent candidates are contesting in these constituencies.
Some prominent political personalities of Sialkot are Choudary Amir Hussain the Speaker National Assembly, former Chairman Zila council Sialkot and Provincial Minister Choudary Akhtar Ali Variyo, former Provincial Livestock Minister Begum Sajida Nayyer Abadi and many more.
Sports Goods industry and surgical industry are more than century old industries of this export-oriented city and nucleus of cottage industry while leather, leather garments, martial art, gloves leather garments, textile items, sports wears, musical instruments and badges industries etc are playing an instrumental role in strengthening the national economy through the exports of quality of products.
The industrial sector is totally export-oriented and products produced in Sialkot are exported globally and the city is earning US 900 million dollars yearly.
The business tycoons of the city are not only engaged with exports but they are also fulfilling the social responsibilities with missionary zeal and commitment.
The business community initiated a unique Sialkot City Package Programme under which main arteries of the city have been constructed and work on remaining roads is in progress. The business community of Sialkot has set up a matchless precedent by constructing mega project of Sialkot International Airport totally on self-help basis.
