Sindh Caretaker Minister for Food & Agriculture, Aijaz Shah Shirazi has warned the flour mills, wheat grinders and shopkeepers of severe legal action for selling the flour at exorbitant rates. Presiding over a meeting of food department officials last evening, he directed them to initiate action against such mills and traders.
Minister also advised general public to lodge complaints with magistrates and food officials against flourmills, Chaki owners and traders who are charging high rates in their respective areas so that action could be taken against them.
Food Secretary Naved Kamran Baloch informed the minister that required quota of wheat is being provided to the mills and Chakis, and there was no shortage of wheat in the province. Moreover, the stalls have also been set-up in different areas of province to provide the people with wheat flour at discounted rate of Rs 16/-per kg.
He described the flour crisis as 'artificial' saying that thousands of people buy wheat flour daily from these stalls at discounted rates, and there are certain elements among these people who after buying the flour at cheap rates, sell it in higher rates.
