Like other parts of the country the people of Rawalpindi city and surrounding areas are also facing the worst kind of Atta shortage. During a survey not a single bag of 20-kg Atta was found in Sadiqabad, Muslim Town and the suburb areas which is an ample proof of the government's failure.
On the other side the nanbais (bakers) have also increased the bread price from Rs 3 to Rs 4. The bread which was being sold at the rate of Re 1 some three years back is now being sold at the rate of Rs 4.
The government claims that it has a sufficient stock of wheat in the provinces but whenever the stock is not available in the open market it is only false claim. Pakistan is an agricultural country as its 70 percent people are associated with the agriculture but despite this fact the country is facing worst kind of shortage of Atta and other agriculture-related commodities like tomatoes and vegetables.
The political and social circles of the area in a joint statement have complained that, on one side, the government was claiming that the country's economy has improved and the status of common man has been raised, but on the other, the people are facing the worst kind of Atta crisis.
They said some supporters of the government also link the Atta crisis with the murder of Benazir Bhutto but the memory of the people is not weak as the people are facing the Atta crisis for the last several months. They said the PML-Q is directly responsible for it as they were running the affairs of government.
They said that some years back the same mafia had created the sugar shortage and the price of sugar reached from Rs 19 per kilo to Rs 45 per kilo and now a conspiracy is being hatched to eliminate the poor.
