Passengers using 154-kilometer six-lane M-1 Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway have demanded of public transport companies to facilitate them by introducing adequate transport facility on it. M-1, one of the ambitious project in the country was opened for all kind of traffic few months back, which also reduced the travelling time between Islamabad and Peshawar.
But according to travellers the public transport owners are still reluctant to introduce transport facility. "We were anxiously waiting for the opening of Islamabad-Peshawar motorway because it is one of the most advanced road network not only in the country but also in the whole region," said Ghulam Fareed, a passenger going to Peshawar from Islamabad.
"But so far the public transport companies have not introduced the much awaited transport system which can facilitate the passengers," he added. "I hope that the general transport would soon start its operation on the M-1," Jamil Rana another passenger expressed his optimism.
Asif Khan, a driver when asked to comment replied that his community use motorway up to Burhan and from the interchange, they switched on to the GT road to facilitate passengers from Nowashara and its adjoining areas. He eyed his route as more financially beneficial.
"We are ready to pay extra money if the public transport use M-1 and their reason for paying extra tax is only a lame excuse," said Naveed Khan, a student coming from Peshawar to Islamabad. Zulfiqar Ali, an owner of a transport company in the Federal Capital, said that they would run their vehicles on the road after the fuel stations and restaurants facilities are opened on both sides.
