Punjab Seed Corporation (PSC) will market on commercial basis the two new hybrid varieties of maize seeds this year, which the corporation had developed. These two new varieties are called FH-421 and FH-810, which were sown on 1000 acres of land last year on experimental basis.
The corporation would market these seeds for 4500 acres this year, sources in PSC told Business Recorder here on Tuesday. FH-421 and FH-810 Maize Hybrid seed has been developed at the Agricultural Research Institute Faisalabad and Sahiwal for the Punjab Seed Corporation (PSC).
The PSC sources said that FH-421 can produce 90-110 maund per acre, while FH-810 can produce 90-100 maund during Kharif season and 100-120 maund per acre in spring season, while the yield of presently available imported seed was hardly 80 maund per acre, the sources claimed.
FH-421 variety has been developed for sowing in spring season while FH-810 is suitable for both spring and autumn sowing, the sources said. They claimed that these seeds would be available on lower prices than the imported seeds and have been developed keeping the local atmosphere and land qualities in view.
Planting of both the varieties after the crop is ripe remains green and could be used as green fodder. These seeds have full resistance against leaf and stem diseases and can give better results despite usage of less fertilisers and water.
