Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Additional Inspector General (AIG) Malik Muhammad Iqbal has said his force will remain on alert to maintain peace in the provincial metropolis in Muharram and map out a security plan.
Chairing a meeting of senior police officers at the Police Lines on Wednesday, he said the force did the planning after it consulted with leaders from various schools of thought.
He said his force had spotted 154 trouble-making areas and that more than 13,000 jawans, 10 SPs, 36 ASPs and DSPs, 76 inspectors, 400 SIs and ASIs would help 3,819 Majalis and 604 processions. He also said armed personnel would join in with mobile squads, the Elite Force, mounted police and women helping the force.
He said that his force would cover 247 Imambargahs and 791 mosques and set up 10 crises management centres in the city working 24 hours with a special control room in his office to co-ordinate between various agencies.
Iqbal said the code of conduct would be strictly implemented with 1,311 District Peace Committee members remaining present on routes where the public would stage processions and Majalis, especially at sensitive places.
He also talked about using metal detectors and a string of measures to let traffic flow on those routes. He said his force would set up special teams to check public members staying at hotels, inns and bus and wagon stops. He told the audience he would personally visit various places to review the security blanket. Those attended the meeting were DIG (Investigation) Tassaduq Hussain, SSP (Operations) Aftab Ahmad Cheema and his security and mobiles SPs.
