With a view to increase accessibility of quality reproductive health services including family-planning and to enhance understanding of adverse consequences of rapid growth, Punjab Population Welfare Department has launched a project in collaboration with UNFPA in Chakwal and Muzaffargarh district with an allocation of Rs 1.40 million.
This was stated by provincial minister for Population Welfare and Human Rights, Maqbul Ilahi Malik, while talking to a delegation. The government wants to promote family planning as an entitlement and voluntary choice, adding that maintaining balance between resources and population growth was necessary.
Highlighting the efforts of the government aimed at promoting population welfare, he said the number of male mobilisers for providing quality family planning services at UC level will be increased phased wise up to 3300 by the end of 2008.
'NGOs are also being encouraged and motivated to lend a helping hand in this cause as over-population is a national burden. Community leaders, especially Ulema and media can greatly contribute in getting realised the people to keep their families according to their resources', he added.
