As residents of Islamabad are embracing severe winter cold and rains and spend most of their time indoor, thieves of Islamabad have discovered another gainful business recently. They cut the underground telephone cables on the deserted roads of the city without working overtime or danger of being caught.
They seem to have an assured market of their latest offers. The recent incident of this innovative vocation occurred on Sunday night, when thieves cut 300, 600 and 900 pairs cables in the main hole located on the Park Road, Islamabad.
Telephones of Park Road, Chak Shahzad, National Institute of Health Colony and Kurri Road remained out of order for two days till the PTCL engineers laid new cables and restored the service on Tuesday.
Last winter the thieves made good with several hundred meters of underground telephone cables in G/8 and F/8 area and the consumer had to wait for several days for restoration of this essential unity. The PTCL management has directed its field staff to beef up the security measures and enhance the patrolling duties, besides using the alarm system working on the PTCL network in Islamabad.
Meanwhile, in another incident a telephone cabinet with 500 working telephone connections was burnt on Sunday due to short circuit near the Committee Chowk Rawalpindi. Regional General Manager has assured the consumers that the system would be fully restored by Tuesday evening.
