The Ministry of Women Development (MoWD) will launch an awareness campaign for encouraging participation of women voters in the upcoming general elections.
Mahmood Salim Mahmood, Secretary MoWD told APP here on Wednesday that the plan for awareness of womenfolk is being finalised that would be launched after Muharram and would continue till the elections on February 18. "Despite using medium of print and electronic media, interactive workshops and seminars will also be conducted in this regard to motivate women voters for casting their votes independently", he added.
The women belonging to all walks of life including those living in remote areas would also be addressed to make them aware of their right to vote. Salim said that "Women being important segment of the society cannot be overlooked for their participation in the general elections and the awareness campaign would help to ensure their participation in political activities", Salim added.
The Election Commission has promised separate polling stations for women this time to ensure women's contribution in the electoral process and to solve the problem in reaching polling stations.
"The campaign is initiated to raise awareness among women voters so that they could cast their vote independently using their own aspirations," he said. The ministry would also conduct a survey to assess the efforts being made to involve women in the political process on the election results, he added.
Some other interactive workshops has also been arranged by NGO's for women voters but the awareness campaign initiated by MoWD would be different and would urge women to vote independently.
