The Secretary, Population Welfare Department (PWD), Sindh, Ilmdin Bullo has said that all out efforts are being taken by the department to motivate people of rural areas of province to plan their family as growth of population is a major challenge in the country.
While addressing a meeting of representatives from various social-marketing organisations held on Saturday, he said that to meet the objectives of controlling the population growth rate in Sindh that is presently 2.1 percent, the department plans to start mobile unit service fitted with operation theatre equipment. So far of 64 mobile vans have been procured and out of those, 24 will be with department soon.
Moreover, some 3,000 Ulemas have been motivated to extend their help and co-operation to make the birth control program successful in the Sindh. The secretary called for more collaboration and co-operation among the PWD and friends of population, a term he used for various organisations working for population control, and suggested for holding of such interactive dialogue once a month.
The health advisor to 'Aahung' Dr Sikandar Sohail informed that his organisation is taking every step to improve the quality of the reproductive health by creating an enabling environment that needs co-operation and support of the media.
Dr Neelofar of Department of Community Health Services, Agha Khan University said that in collaboration with the World Bank's Reproductive Health Research, various courses are being imparted for sensitising the Millennium Development Goals.
The Country Manager, Institute of International Education, Kamyla Marvi Tapal expressed her views on leadership Development Program for mobilising reproductive health. Khalil Ahmed, the Regional Director and representative of Family
Planning Association of Pakistan (Rehnuma) stated that our organisation in its programme with regard to motivation-education has entered into an agreement with the Pakistan Army and Air Force whereby in 29 garrisons throughout Pakistan that include three of Sindh at Malir, Hyderabad and in Panu Aqil.
