Chairman Federal Food Committee Lieutenant General (Retd) Farooq Ahmed Khan on Monday said improved flour situation would be visible in few days across the country. Talking to a private TV channel, he said wheat quota to flourmills had been increased.
"Earlier, 32,000 tonnes of wheat was being provided to flourmills on daily basis for grinding. Now, 8,000 tonnes more wheat has been added to flourmills' daily quota," he added. He said that this quantity is sufficient for a population of 12 million on daily basis and if the flour is short in supply despite that quota then something is going very wrong.
The chairman said that strict monitoring system of flourmills and distribution points had been put in place in coordination with all concerned quarters to avoid any pilferage and hoarding.
He said that several practical and administrative measures are being taken to ensure provision of this essential commodity to masses at controlled rates across the country. "Flour crisis like situation is seems to be receding, and in a time of few days we should be able to have flour crisis under control," he maintained.
