The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in collaboration with the federal government would hold seminars at national-level to create inter-provincial harmony. The chamber would also assess the losses inflicted to businesses after Benazir Bhutto's assassination last month.
The consensus in this connection was reached in a meeting between the Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Co-ordination Dr Muhammad Amjad and the office bearers of the LCCI on Monday.
The minister also agreed with the President, LCCI, Mohammad Ali Mian regarding the participation of LCCI members in the high-powered Commission formed to finalise compensation strategy for the businesses that suffered heavy losses in the aftermath of December 27 tragedy. Amjad said similar commissions would also be made at provincial and district levels that would submit reports to the federal commission.
He also said the government was evolving a Businesses Rehabilitation Policy to be announced soon under which small business would be facilitated. Further, the minister said riots in the country after Benazir's assassination were well planned, as the perpetrators wanted to convey a message to the international community that Pakistan was a non-governable state.
While presenting the assess of the losses, he said actual losses of Pakistan Railways stand at Rs 6.5 billion, banks at Rs 1.2 billions and the accumulative loss to the industries is Rs 31 billions wherein factories worth of Rs 22 billions were gutted by ant-social elements.
Talking about ongoing energy crisis, he said the government was well aware of the situation and taking all possible measures to rectify this problem. The LCCI President urged the minister to identify the root cause of the incidents that are destroying country's economy as well as its image abroad.
He said the government should constitute another commission to find out the real culprits as the sequence of these unfortunate incidents are enough to make the point that some sort of international conspiracy has been hatched against Pakistan. The Senior Vice President, LCCI, Mian Muzaffar Ali and Vice President, Shafqat Saeed Piracha were the other speakers of the meeting.
