Foreign Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Store, called on Justice (Retd) Muhammad Farooq, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) in his office and discussed the matters relating to general elections 2008. Secretary EC was also present during the meeting.
CEC appreciated the support of the Norwegian government in strengthening of democracy and democratic institutions in Pakistan including its support to upcoming general elections.
The Foreign minister was assured that the Election Commission of Pakistan is making all out efforts to conduct elections in free, fair, transparent and peaceful manner. CEC told that international observers from Norway as well as over the world are welcomed and will be free to move anywhere in Pakistan to witness the electoral process.
He said for this purpose accreditation cards are being issued to enable them to freely visit polling stations and view all the voting process including counting process at the polling stations and in the offices of the Returning Officers.
