Ambassador of Russian Federation Sergey N. Peskov on Tuesday called on General Tariq Majid, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), here at Joint Staff Headquarters and discussed matters of mutual interest between the two countries.
Discussing the new upsurge in terrorist activities in the region both were of the view that these disreputable activities indicate the desperation of the terrorists as they have suffered a real set back and now were on the run.
General Tariq Majid emphasised that the upsurge in bomb blast incidents in the recent past has further strengthened the resolve to fight terrorism.
Commenting on bilateral relations, the CJCSC said that military to military cooperation serves as a driving force for development of bilateral relations amongst nations. Hence the requirement of frequent visits by military leaders from both sides is mandatory to develop better understanding and enhance defence cooperation. Possibility of joint exercises, sharing of intelligence, cooperation in combating terrorism and collaboration in defence production also came under discussion during the meeting.
