Caretaker Minister for Irrigation Syed Dilawar Abbas has said the current rains is a natural boon for wheat crops, especially for Barani areas, leaving a healthy and positive impact on crops.
He made his comment when he talked with different delegations in his office on Friday. "Our country is facing an acute shortage of water, especially in winter, because of low rain and snow falls and catchment areas of rivers. Cultivators of Barani areas mainly depend on rains and the current timely rainfall will leave a positive impact on the production of crops," he said.
He said the underground water table was also decreasing because of water shortage in rivers and that the only solution to tackle the water and power shortages was to built mega reservoirs of water, including the Kalabagh Dam.
