Asaf Ali Zardari on Friday demanded that vehicles should be run on alternate fuels like ethanol. The PPP co-chairman made the demand while talking to a delegation of industrialists and businessmen who went to see him to offer their condolences on his recent bereavement and the martyrdom of Mohtrama Benazir Bhutto.
About the use of ethanol a by-product of hydrocarbons-could be developed in the country locally, and also suggested the use of ants for this purpose. As a Federal Minister in the PPP government, he said when he was looking after environment portfolio, he introduced a number of environment friendly technologies for transport, industry and construction. His suggestion was not implemented because the PPP government was illegally dismissed.
Now, Zardari has directed the relevant party committee to give final shape to the proposal and develop alternative sources of fuel to save the environment from deterioration and degradation.
In the event of the government not endorsing the proposal then PPP government would announce incentives for promoting use of vehicles fuelled by alternate sources, he said, adding that he would also import these kinds of vehicles without duty.
