Pakistan Seafood Industries Association (PSIA) has postponed its call for "No purchases of raw material from January 24, 2008," after a meeting of its delegation with the Administrator Fisherman Co-operative Society (FCS), Tahir Mazhar Dada.
This was stated by Sardar Muhammad Hanif Khan, chairman PSIA in a press release issued here on Tuesday. He said that it is regretful that the federal government is least interested in resolving issues pertaining to the fish industry which is under the fire of marine fisheries department (MFD) at present.
He further said that Tahir Mazhar Dada was informed that it is very difficult for the processors/exporters to continue their operations under the present negative attitude of the MFD. We do not do business to bring foreign exchange for the country, pay taxes to the government and get abused.
Our point of view was that under the present MFD management, which is non technical and above all non serious, there is no chance of revival of export to European countries which is our major market and we are deprived of doing business with this market for the last almost one year.
Tahir Mazhar Dada said that he is also having meetings with PSIA and trying his level best to come on to a solution to the issues being faced by the industry in the hands of MFD for the betterment of the poor fishermen. If there is any strike, poor fishermen will suffer which he cannot afford.
He asked to the delegation of Pakistan Seafood Industries Association to postpone their strike call for 45 days, which was accepted by the delegation after having a corner meeting. Pakistan Seafood Industries Association has now fixed the date for "No purchases of raw material" from 2nd February 2008 in case the government does not fulfil their genuine demand.-PR
