Sindh Caretaker Home Minister Brigadier Akhtar Zamin (Retd) has said that after the successful security arrangements for the Youme Ashur, the most important task before the home department in Sindh was to ensure the peaceful and hassle-free general elections for which the polling is to take place on February 18, 2008.
He said that all arrangements in connection with the polling on February 18, 2008 have been taken and besides the police and rangers, who would be performing main law enforcing duties, army units will also be on the standby in case these are needed for law and order enforcement.
The Sindh home minister said this while presiding over a high level meeting in his office to review the measures against highway robberies and maintenance of good law order in the province.
The meeting was attended by Home Secretary Arif Ahmed khan, CCPO Karachi Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui, DCO Karachi Jawed Hanif, DIG East Zone Salman Syed, TPO Gadap Mir Hussain Lehri, SSP Traffic Zone Nisar Ahmed Bajwa, EDO revenue Saleh Farooqui and Director National Highways Authority Abdul Aziz Langah.
Brigadier Akhtar Zamin (Retd) on the occasion said that to make Karachi a cradle of peace and harmony the federal government will have to assist in the form of force and resources to the provincial government.
