The Asian Development Bank said Thursday it would provide a loan of 350 million dollars to improve urban infrastructure and services in India's mountainous northern state of Uttarakhand.
The loan will finance a programme to improve the quality of life for about 3.8 million urban residents in 31 towns and cities, the bank said in a statement from its headquarters in the Philippine capital. The programme will try to improve water supplies to meet national standards and cover the collection and treatment of about 60 percent of wastewater from the towns and cities, the bank said.
Nearly three-quarters of all solid waste will be collected and disposed of adequately and the road network will be improved to shorten travel time and improve road safety, the bank said.
