Pakistan Kissan Board has threatened to launch a drive from February 10 against the Government as a protest against the long duration of power-load shedding, non availability of well-germinated seed, good quality fertilisers on reasonable price and non-availability of irrigation water.
Addressing a Press Conference Provincial President of PKB Khurshid Ahmed Kanju, Secretary General Munir Hussain Bodla and Kanwar Muhammad Siddique said that wheat was cultivated on 14 percent less area than the target fixed by the Government. "We are going to launch a Kisan Bachao-Mulk-Bachao drive across the country from February 10," Khurshid Kanju said. He said that Pakistan would face a severe wheat crisis next year due to the wrong and ill-conceived policies of the Government.
They said that DAP fertiliser is available at Rs 2100 per 50 kg bag, There is no water in the canals but Government was collecting full Abiana (Water-rate) from the farmers. Sugar Mafia was fleecing the farmers with both hands and it was purchasing sugarcane at Rs 45 per maund instead of 62 with 25 percent deduction. They said that not a single penny of agricultural loans was written off while 153 billion rupees loans of industrialists were written off.
They said that farmers were being arrested and harassed for the recovery of loans of only 25,000 to one lac. They said that standing crop of cotton on 1.4 million acres of land was badly affected due to Leaf Curl Virus, Mealy bug and pests.
