The recruitment on several vacant posts in Federal Urdu University have been postponed for another six months, putting the future of the applicants in doldrums.
Sources informed Business Recorder here on Friday that the decision to put the appointments on hold was taken in a meeting of university officials a few days back with Dr Qaiser, the newly appointed vice-chancellor of the university, in chair.
The meeting also concluded that the priority would be given to the infrastructure development and the academic excellence in all the three university campuses at Islamabad and Karachi. While the appointments on the vacant slots of different pay scales have been delayed for at least next six months, sources revealed.
It is noted that more 200 non-teaching posts of BPS-1 to 16 are lying vacant since last few years in all the three campuses of the university. Amongst many, one major reason of these empty slots was that the university was running its business without any permanent institutional head since the last one and half year that created severe managerial flaws in the university matters.
However, the process of recruitment was started in January 2007 by the acting vice-chancellor of the university and the applications were invited from the candidates. The written test for the applicants was also held in university's Gulshan-e-Iqbal Campus of Karachi in February 2007, sources maintained.
Even, the acting VC had formed the selection board that also conducted the interviews of some successful candidates, but the process was halted than, following the objections of the university's Senate.
According to sources, some Senate members were of the view that the process of recruitment would not be legal and ethical in absence of the permanent vice-chancellor and the acting VC had no right to issue such orders.
After the appointment of Dr Qaiser as the Vice Chancellor of FUUAST, it was expected that the university would reinitiate the ceased process of the recruitment but the new administrator has also put the matter in cold storage, causing discontentment among the successful candidates waiting for their appointments.
