Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (Erra) on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of $25 million with the Gaddafi Foundation for construction of various civic facilities in new Balakot city.
Deputy Chairman Erra Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed and Dr Yoosef Swani of Gaddafi Foundation signed the document on behalf of their respective organisations. The MoU aims to undertake the construction of central mosque, commercial area, Tehsil Headquarter Hospital, girls and boys degree colleges and six primary schools in new Balakot city that would be located at the Bakryal site.
"The government will provide free of cost land and the Gaddafi Foundation would sponsor the implementation of all allocated projects in line with Erra's strategy for urban development and policies," an official of the Erra said. The foundation would design, implement, supervise and execute the projects, he elaborated.
Speaking on the occasion, Libyan delegation reiterated support of their government for reconstruction and rehabilitation of earthquake affected areas and said Libya would provide the financial assistance for the project in order to undertake the reconstruction of New Balakot city on a fast track.
Deputy chairman Erra Nadeem Ahmed said that Erra is undertaking productive and meaningful rehabilitation activities in the quake hit areas in Pakistan", he said.
While talking to Business Recorder the officials of PIMS told that in the opening session of the course, Caretaker Federal Minister for Health Ejaz Rahem had stressed upon the need to revise the PC-1 of the Inter Country Training Programme on Safe Motherhood, to allow a boost in the frequency of training and reservation of seats for participants from other countries in the region like India, Nepal, Afghanistan and so on.
It was insisted that every province including Fata should be involved in the training. Jica is helping Pakistan a lot in tackling and strengthening its health issues mainly the TB Control Programme, the polio eradication initiative and escalating the health information system.
