The provincial livestock department is in the process of establishing a modern animal breeding centre at its Red Sindhi cattle breeding farm in Tando Mohammad Khan on the pattern of Remount Veterinary Farm of Pakistan Army at Okara in Punjab.
This was stated by Caretaker Sindh Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Mir Mansab Ali Khan Jhakhrani on his return from a visit of Okara farm on Sunday. During the visit, the minister who was accompanied by Secretary Fisheries and Livestock, Siddique Memon, Director Animal Breeding, Dr Abdul Qadir Junejo and Director Animal Husbandry Dr Sarwar Shaikh met Punjab Minister for Livestock Mumtaz Khan Manesh in Lahore and discussed related matters.
The Punjab livestock minister assured his Sindh's counterpart of every support and cooperation on behalf of Punjab government and said that soon he will visit Sindh province to observe the working and projects of livestock department.
Jakhrani visited Okara Military Dairy Farm to see the facility of Embrio transfer technology to replicate the same at the new centre being establish in Tando Mohammad Khan to be known as Embrio Transfer and Semen Processing Centre with 69 field artificial centres in 15 districts of province viz Karachi, Thatta, Hyderabad, Badin, Dadu, Sanghar, Tando Allah Yar, Mirpurkhas, Matiari, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad and Larkana.
The project will cost Rs 1465.944 million to be completed in 60 months with objective of one million inseminations per year and 5,000 embryo transfer for which a laboratory will be established and artificial insemination network to be improved upon resulting in increase of milk and wheat production.
The delegation members were taken round the dairy farm by Brigadier Ziaul Hasnain and Brigadier Amanullah who briefed them about the achievements of embryo transfer laboratory. On the occasion a cattle show was also arranged in which best animals of the farm were shown.
The two brigadiers on behalf of Director General Remount Veterinary Military Farms Corps Major General Ali assured of their full cooperation to Sindh government in the establishment of proposed livestock centre.
