The Market Committee in Joher Abad has received an order from the provincial ombudsman to pay Rs 358,534 pending for the past 15 years against the construction of a vegetable and fruit market in 1993. The ombudsman said it was a classic case of failure of government functionaries and that if there were defects at that time.
The project engineer in-charge should have faced action. The committee refused to pay, arguing that samples should be checked and certified by the Building Research Station in Lahore. The agriculture secretary has now to decide the matter in 12 days.
