Argentine 2006/07 wheat export commitments stood at 9.316 million tonnes by January 25, the Agriculture Secretariat said in its latest weekly report. By the same date last year, Argentina, a top-five wheat exporter, had sold 8.205 million tonnes of the grain.
During the last week, the government made a negative adjustment to sales of 9,000 tonnes to Nigeria, 6,000 to South Africa, 5,000 to Peru, 2,000 to Yemen and 26,000 to unspecified destinations. Meanwhile, export commitments for the 2007/08 crop totalled 7.047 million tonnes, unchanged from a week earlier. The 2007/08 wheat export registry is currently closed, but organic week can still be registered for export.
Argentina's 2006/07 wheat crop totalled 14.6 million tonnes, according to government figures, up from 12.6 million tonnes in 2005/06 and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecasts Argentine exports of 2006/07 wheat at 10.5 million tonnes.
