Governor Khalid Maqbool has called for preserving wildlife and ecology of the country and said if Pakistan's livestock is developed to its full potential, the country will gain economic progress.
His comment came at the concluding session of a two-day international conference on "education for wildlife sustainability" and a training workshop on "natural photography and GTS", arranged by the Department of Wildlife and Ecology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.
He called for captive breeding of wildlife, establishing safari parks and increasing the number of zoos in the country. He lauded the progress made by the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in a short span of time, saying the university had made improved in expanding in academic programmes and infrastructure. He said the government had provided Rs 3.9 billion for the university's development projects and that the university would cover all elements of livestock in the near future.
The governor also opened a new building of the Pet Centre and an aviary. Punjab Livestock Minister Mumtaz Manais called for mass awareness about the conservation of wildlife. He said a wildlife conservation society should be established and hunters be registered to save the rare species of wildlife from extinction. He said school curriculum should also include some basics about conservation of wildlife.-PR
