Punjab Caretaker Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development, Mumtaz Khan Menhais has urged upon the officers of the department to gear up their efforts for the provision of scientific and technical services and guidance to the livestock farmers in order to bring about white revolution in the country.
He stated this while addressing a meeting of the local officers of livestock and dairy development department here at Circuit House. The minister said that the importance of development in the livestock sector should be realised extensively for strengthening the economy of the country. He added that progress in this sector could not be achieved without adopting the modern technology of animal breeding.
Urging upon the department's veterinarians to play an effective for safeguarding the animal health, he said that inoculation campaign should continue in their respective areas and livestock breeders should be provided with the advanced technical know how of farm management and scientific guidance for the breeding of high productive animals.
District Livestock Officer, Dr Akbar Ali Chaudhry while giving briefing to the minister, highlighted the performance, achievements, vision and future plan of the department.
Later, the livestock minister visited the Agriculture University and held a meting with vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Bashir Ahmad. Various proposals and suggestions were reviewed in the meeting for the development of livestock and dairy sector on modern lines. The minister also visited the faculty of Animal Husbandry and met the faculty members.
He stressed upon the researchers to provide the benefits of their successful research to the livestock breeders enabling them to succeed in increasing at least one litre milk of each animal, which could ultimately add Rs 88 billion to the national exchequer annually.
The minister was briefed by Dean of faculty, Dr Muhammad Younas about the academic and search activities of the faculty. Minister livestock also met with the students and apprised them of the modern technology being applied in the developed counties for boosting up the livestock sector.
He informed that veterinary dispensaries were being established in every union council under livestock support programme besides upgrading the tehsil veterinary hospitals in different districts of the province under a phased programme. He said that a project had also been initiated in Cholistan for the improvement of water reservoirs for animals and special drive for inoculation was also under way in this area.
