A meeting between Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and UN Industrial Development Organisation (Unido) will be held on February 6 to discuss measures for lifting of European Union (EU) ban on Pakistan's seafood export.
This was decided in a meeting of fishery sector's stakeholders including fishermen, boat owners, mole holders, Marine Fisheries Department (MFD), Karachi Fisheries Harbour Authority (KFHA), held at Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.
According to TDAP here on Friday, the meeting was presided by TDAP Chief Executive Tariq Ikram. The meeting reviewed the whole decisions and earlier discussed matters regarding lifting of EU ban on the country's seafood export.
In view of latest developments regarding the proposal of Unido about using plastic containers the meeting decided to meet the Unido officials on February 6 to take a final decision for the use of plastic container. Tariq Ikram informed the meeting that TDAP will request the Unido representatives to form a delegation along with stakeholders of fisheries sector for visit to different places where the plastic containers are being utilised.
In the meeting the fishermen highlighted the needs for improvement of the conditions of living standards of fishermen regarding health and education etc Boat owners called for refund of sales tax on diesel to bring down their operational cost.
The meeting also decided to delay the meeting with the Prime Minister till the plastic container's matter could be resolved.The TDAP chief assured the delegation full support of TDAP for the lifting of ban on seafood export. He said all necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
