The Pink Ribbon National Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign Pakistan, has launched its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme to mark the World Cancer Day on February 4. The PRNBCACP, a project of Women's Empowerment Group and Vision 2015, celebrated 'Pink Ribbon Day' in this connection at UniLever, Pakistan.
The National Co-ordinator, Pink Ribbon Campaign, Omer Aftab, gave a presentation that highlighted the objectives of Pink Ribbon campaign and situation of breast cancer in Pakistan. He said, "Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer in Asia. Every year, breast cancer kills 40,000 women out of 83,000 detected for the disease.
Therefore it is the right time that people should shun unnecessary reservations consider serious precautions against the deadly disease. Pink Ribbon has taken the initiative to create awareness in society in this regard in the first phase of its campaign and the "Corporate Social Responsibility Program" is the second phase."
Aftab also said that corporate social responsibility is a concept whereby the organisation considers interests of society by convincing the customers, employees, shareholders, communities and the environment in all aspects of their operations.
By joining hands with the Pink Ribbon, he said, Unilever has volunteered to take steps to improve awareness level regarding breast cancer among employees, their families, local community and social society. Further Aftab thanked the Unilever administration for arranging the Pink Ribbon Day at their organisation office.
The Manager CSR, Unilever, while addressing the occasion said "the campaign is a sensitive responsibility, but Unilever believes in Pink Ribbon's objectives. Therefore it will continue to support the campaign at all cost and announced to hold Pink Ribbon Days at its offices nation-wide." Interestingly Unilever employees also wore pink to express their support for the Pink Ribbon cause.
