The Pakistan Bar Council has upheld its decision to hold symbolic boycott of the higher courts on daily basis for one hour and allowed the lawyers to appear before the lower judiciary. The bar also decided to observe complete boycott on every Thursday and holds protest meetings and rallies at every district and tehsil headquarters.
These decisions were taken during a meeting of the Bar that was held here on Saturday chaired by its Vice Chairman Aziz Akbar Baig. After the meeting, Aziz Baig along with Chairman Executive Committee Qazi Anwar informed the journalists that the meeting had taken this decision unanimously while keeping in view the hardships of the people.
They said the National Action Committee, Supreme Court Bar Association and other bodies of the bars had expressed their confidence in Pakistan Bar Council and had announced to accept the Bar's decisions.
"Although this decision would give an impression that strike has been laid off, but it is difficult for the Bar to ignore the hardships of the people of Pakistan. It is not a struggle for a day or two but it would take a long time to compel the government to reinstate the judiciary, and the Bar could not put the people of Pakistan in difficulties," they added.
They also said the Bar has taken the same decisions after thorough discussion and in national interest. "Lawyers would continue their struggle for the reinstatement of the deposed judges and revival of the judiciary as it was before November 2, 2007", they added. They also said that lawyers would never accept Pervez Musharraf as President and they would continue their struggle till the demands accepted.
