Caretaker Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Nisar A. Memon has emphasised the need for effective collaboration and linkage among Press Clubs and Mass Communication Department of higher learning institutions.
The Minister also endorsed the need for professional training for working journalists. Collaboration between study departments and media-persons clubs as well as linkage would not only boost professionalism among the journalists but will also be beneficial for the learners in the universities, the Federal Information Minister said at a reception hosted by the members of Hyderabad Press Club here on Saturday.
Nisar A. Memon said after assuming the office of Caretaker Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, he focused attention in this direction and on considering to set up an institute by utilising the activities of different sections of the Ministry including the academies of Pakistan Television Corporation and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation.
The project of Media University in Islamabad has been designed near the PTV Academy and soon its groundbreaking ceremony would be organised, he said. Along with the establishment of the University, the government is considering to link it with the PTV Academy to provide maximum professional knowledge to the learners.
The Caretaker Minister lauded the performance of Mass Communication Department of Punjab University adding that with the facilities of FM Radio and Television System not only the students could get advantage of developing media experience of modern times but it also help those working journalists who desire to acquire professional training.
The mass communication department of other universities of the country should also work on the same pattern so that not only the students but also the working journalists could benefit from modern media functioning, he added.
He opined that if Hyderabad Press Club forges collaboration with Mass Communication Department of the University Sindh, it would be beneficial for the stake-holders. Talking about the requirements of Hyderabad Press Club, Nisar A. Memon called upon its office bearers to prepare immediate and long-term programmes for improvement in the facilities.
The present caretaker government would fulfil the Club's requirements of immediate nature like provision of computers he assured and added that initiatives would also be taken in connection with long term programmes.
About utilisation of the plot of land of Radio Station Hyderabad lying abandoned adjacent to Hyderabad Press Club, the Minister directed the Station Director to develop a park there and open it only for the members of the Club.
The Information Minister on the occasion handed over a cheque of Rs 0.2 million as financial grant to President of Hyderabad Press Club. Caretaker Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Nisar A. Memon clarified that Rs 0.1 million, which was promised by the then federal information minister are also included in this amount.
Earlier, President Hyderabad Press Club while welcoming the Caretaker Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting lauded his efforts and apprised him of the problems being faced by the Club management.
