Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration has constructed 112 watercourses and additional 100 watercourses are also under completion in rural areas.
Chief Commissioner Islamabad Hamid Ali Khan was informed that many mini dams and lift-irrigation schemes have been completed in these areas, where the farmers have started cultivating various crops, fruits, vegetables, citrus and olive plantation.
Chief Commissioner visited rural areas of Islamabad on Saturday and inspected various on-going agricultural projects including construction of watercourses, construction of mini dams to conserve water for irrigation purpose, construction of retaining walls to check erosion of soil and various lift-irrigation schemes.
Director AIL, ICT Tariq Javed Malik and heads of soil conservation, water management and Agriculture extension services also accompanied the Chief Commissioner ICT during his visit to rural areas.
Hamid Ali Khan visited union Council Bhara Kahu and adjoining Athal, Phulgran, Sihali and Mera Baigwal and inspected various projects of watercourses, Mini dams ponds, retaining walls, and lift-irrigation schemes completed by the Agriculture extension services, soil conservation and water management of ICT Administration for the promotion of agriculture in rural areas.
The local community appreciated the efforts of ICT Administration for the development of Agriculture in the rural areas of Islamabad.
Addressing the local community, the Chief Commissioner, urged the people to promote mechanised farming in rural areas. He announced a number of incentives for the farmer community for the development of Agriculture.
He stressed commercial farming in order to meet the local demand satisfactorily. Khan announced that all the facilities including provision of water, electricity will be ensured for the farmers.
He asked the community to set up farmers Committees, which should put forward solid recommendations in co-ordination with Agriculture Extension Services for further development of Agriculture.
