Seminar on 'Data Produced by Statistics & Data Warehouse'

The Vice Chancellor of Sindh University, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui has said in era of the globalisation we cannot ignore the importance of adopting international standards in our statistical system.
He was presiding over a seminar on Data Produced by Statistics & Data Warehouse Department jointly organised by department of Statistics and State Bank of Pakistan.
The seminar was largely attended by teachers and students from the department of Statistics, Economics, Commerce and others departments. Vice Chancellor said that official statistics are very important in information systems of a democratic society, and provide data about the economic, demographic, social and environmental situation.
Sidddiqui said that official statistics that meet the test of practical utility are to be compiled and made available on an impartial basis by officials Statistics agencies to honour citizen, entitlement to public information and added that easy and equal access to Statistical information is one important aspect of the citizen's rights in a functioning democratic system.
The VC said that in order to facilitate international comparison of statistics as well as to achieve efficiency and quality, international statistical standards and concept must be followed in the production of official statistics.
Dr Azizullah Khatak, Director Statistics and Data Warehouse Department of State Bank of Pakistan said that the data produced by department has proved helpful for research scholars in the field of economics and finance.
He said that SBP has been collection data electronically and checking it with software and logically with double check system before releasing.
He said that the Universities including University of Sindh introduce study course of Official Statistics in the department of Statistics and added that for the teaching purpose the concerned experts be invited. Dr Raja M. Ilyas Rajput Director of the Department of Statistics of the University said that the main purpose of the seminar was to provide knowledge and awareness to academia, researchers and students.
He said that timely availability of reliable and accurate data is one of the most important pre requisite for planning, research and decision making process at individual and institutional level. Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences Professor Dr Muhammad Yar Khuhawar and other scholars also expressed their views.
