President Citizens Rights Association (CRA) Chaudhry Nasir Ahmad has accused the management of Utility Stores of profiteering and urged the government to take serious measure in this regard to control the situation.
He said, "The government should take serious notice of the situation. In spite of importing huge quantities of wheat and edible oil, consumers have deprived of them, which clearly shows that there are profiteers."
He was talking to reporters on Tuesday during his visit to one of the Utility Stores of Model Town, where a huge number of people had stood in queue for getting flour and cooking oil since morning.
On the occasion Ahmad received a string of complaints from the people of area they said that Utility Stores opened only for two hours despite that outlet's people showed unavailability of flour and cooking oil stockpiles.
Accompanied by his association members he visited different areas. He then appealed to President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mohammadmian Soomro to take stern action against profiteers. About the fertiliser crisis, he warned that if farmers were unable to produce wheat it would have serious consequences. "The government must seriously take remedial steps, otherwise this will disrupt law and order," he added.
