"Cognisant of the emergency situation and senseless actions of miscreants causing damage to human lives, we are concentrating on developing an emergency life support skills programme," said Executive Director of PIMS, Dr Abdul Majeed Rajput on Tuesday.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of life support skills training programme for officials of Motorway Police here, he said that PIMS has started this training for 4000 officials to handle any emergency on the Motorway. Out of nine institutions under the umbrella of PIMS, five have been dedicated to education and training purpose, he said. Dr Majeed said that PIMS is a tertiary care hospital, providing state-of-the-art clinical services to the people.
"Beside clinical services, we also have a very strong human resource development programme. We have developed necessary life support packages along with advanced medical teaching programmes," he added.
He said that these training programme have been developed in collaboration with international and national organisations. Advanced life support group of UK, Child Advocacy International and local partners have contributed to the development of the programmes, he added.
"We have also included some generic programmes to supplement the technical life support skills activity," he said. "I am sure that this will go a long way in improving the first response to an emergency that you are responsible for on our highways and motorway", he added.
He said this public-private partnership should go ahead. "This is first step in collaboration with other organisations for imparting such training. This kind of training should also be imparted to federal and provincial organisations, including schools and colleges so that as a nation we can fight and help during natural disasters."
He also briefed about various ongoing projects of PIMS including the cardiac and trauma centres at Motorway. Motorway Police Inspector-General Riffat Pasha, Assistant Inspector General Sultan Azam Taimoori (Coordinator of the course) and a large number of nurses and Motorway officials attended the ceremony.
