Punjab University on Tuesday held a meeting on 'Teachers' Evaluation' to review different aspects of teaching necessary to upgrade the standards of university. Vice-Chancellor Punjab University, Dr Mujahid Kamran presided over the meeting held at the auditorium of Institute of Bio-chemistry and Biotechnology.
Meanwhile Registrar Professor Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan, Professor Dr Arif Butt, Professor Dr Najma Najam, deans and heads of departments and institutes were also present.
Expressing his views Dr Mujahid Karmarn said that teachers' evaluation had great importance in academic process and evaluation should be made in transparent manners. He said that evaluation process should be conducted to make up for shortcoming and not for exploitation of teachers. He also urged the students to honestly express their opinion about the teachers at the end of semester.
Earlier, Professor Mumtaz Ahmad Salik proposed making a separate department for teachers evaluation. Psychology Department Chairman Dr Yasmin Farooqi said that evaluation of the teachers should not be done in the middle of semester.
Dr Manzoor Sarwar on the occasion said that all the foreign institutes of higher education evaluate the performance of teachers at the end of semester because at that time students gave their opinion honestly.
Another professor said that teachers should treat students sympathetically and guide them towards true lines. Institute of Quality and Technology Management Director Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad said that his institute conducted teachers' evaluation after six to seven months and it helped them improve teaching standards.
