The Punjab University has reviewed its semester system rules for under-graduate studies to set them in line with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) standards. Professor Dr Muhammad Arif Butt chaired the meeting. Semester Implementation Committee (SIC) Secretary Dr Amin Athar discussed all various clauses of the semester system rules one by one.
Professor Dr Iftikhar Hussain Baloch and some other professors strongly argued for including research with a project report and an internship in the final semester of the four-year under-graduate programme. Dr Najma also supported the idea and the chair directed the SIC secretary to do the same.
The meeting decided that every student should attend 75 per cent lectures of a particular class and those who would fail to do so would take additional classes to make up for the credit hours. Professor Dr Professor Dr Najma Najam compared various semester system rules with that of the Fatima Jinnah University for Women where she had served as vice chancellor and gave her views on complicated rules.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Kamran told the chair to decide an issue through vote by show of hands. The meeting also discussed credit hours, migration, re-admission, emergency or medical leave, semester freezing and grade system.
