India's Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Friday protest against recent fuels price rises. The Indian government has increased the price of petrol and diesel fuels because of a surge in global oil prices, the country's oil minister said.
Starting at midnight petrol would cost two rupees (five cents) more per litre while diesel will cost one rupee extra, oil minister Murli Deora said. The government last increased oil prices in June 2006 - when world crude oil prices hovered above 70-dollars a barrel - which brought protests from opposition parties and the government's left-wing allies.
