On the eve of parliamentary polls in Pakistan, Co-chairman, Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Asif Ali Zardari is 100 percent confident of garnering a majority but warned the President, Pervez Musharraf-led government not to rig the elections otherwise he will launch massive street protests leading to break-up of the nation.
"Up till now I've shown absolute patience. My wife, the former Premier, Benazir Bhutto has been killed, yet I've calmed people down, stopped them protesting and did not call a strike.
``But I'm telling you, people are absolutely on the warpath and if the elections are rigged, the situation will go out of my hands. Then we will have no choice but to take the streets," Zardari said in an interview with The Sunday Times published today.
"I feel, Benazir's spirit is with me and I won't let her down. We have played our part responsibly are taking part in the elections rather than boycotting", he added.
Zardari said now it was the government's turn to give us a free run. People are angry and on the breadline, despite $60 billion windfall President Musharraf has enjoyed over the past eight years.
"They want change and democracy. If we are allowed free and fair elections, I believe to get the majority win", Zardari added while warning that Pakistan would face massive violence that could lead to its break-up if, Musharraf government carries out alleged planss to rig or disrupt the polls.
