IG Police Balochistan Saood Gohar on Sunday unveiled that Army personnel would not be deployed at polling stations in the province, adding as many as 80 companies of Army will remain alert to aid district administrations if the needs of their services are required in maintenance of law and order.
Talking to journalists here after his visit and review of security arrangements at different polling stations, he said that Army has set up four 'aviation wings' where they will stay alert. Army personnel will reach the spot through helicopters of Aviation Corps if their services are required for maintaining order.
'It is for the first time that police are controlling law and order during the elections in Balochistan. A total of 26,500 police have been deployed for the purpose. Earlier, Levies force had controlled law and order during elections in the past decades,' he explained.
He said that police have started their patrolling led by their respective SDPOs and DPOs in all 30 districts of the province. Besides, police have also set up hundreds of picket for keeping vigil and maintaining order in different districts of the province.
Police will ensure search bodies of all voters then they will be allowed to enter inside polling stations for casting their votes, he said, adding police department has established "information control room" which will also share information with journalists regarding any unpleasant incident. He warned anti-social elements not to impede electioneering process and disarray the law and order otherwise police will deal with iron hands.
