Wheat and rice kept rising tempo, where other commodities moved both ways during the week ended on February 16, 2008. The commodities fluctuated during the outgoing week were wheat, rice, cotton cakes, plastic mouldings, guwar, gram garda, yellow peas Canada, yellow peas dal Canada, chemical etc.
On Monday, wheat rose sharply as it picked up Rs 50 to Rs 1600 and other type was quoted at Rs 1615, Irri-6 Sindh also turned substantially higher by Rs 30 to Rs 2180 and better type was quoted at Rs 2200, cottonseed cakes dipped by Rs 40 to Rs 600 and better was quoted at Rs 610.
Elsewhere plastic mouldings showed mixed pattern. HDPE (per lb) Saudi 952 down by Rs 1 to Rs 57.50, Mobile shed 75 paisa to Rs 57.50, and TR 144 lost 75 paisa to Rs 57.50, HDPE injection Sabic 200056 retreated by 75 paisa to Rs 54.50, Mobile 016 retreated by 50 paisa to Rs 54.50, and Iran shed 50 paisa to Rs 50. LLDPE W118 closed lower by 25 paisa to Rs 56.75, 7078 dipped by 25 to 56.75 and Sabic 500026 scaled higher by Rs 2 to Rs 70, polypropylene film Thai shed 75 paisa to Rs 59.25, Kuwait shed 75 paisa to Rs 59.25 and India shed Rs 1 to Rs 59.25, polypropylene tape grade India scaled down by 50 paisa to Rs 59, Kuwait shed 50 paisa to Rs 59, and Saudia shed 50 paisa to Rs 59. On Tuesday wheat sustained rising trend as both old and new types rose by Rs 25 to Rs 1625 and Rs 1640.
The prices towards the middle week started showing declining trend as guwar Sindh inferior type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 1850, and better followed suit and rose by Rs 25 to Rs 2925, til gained Rs 25 to Rs 3400, while better type rose rather sharply by Rs 150 to Rs 3600 Khandsari, however, was down by Rs 200 to Rs 2800, gram garda from Punjab inferior retreated by Rs 50 to Rs 2825, while the other type shed Rs 100 to Rs 2925, yellow peas Canada lost Rs 50 to Rs 2900, while the other was quoted at Rs 3050, yellow peas Canada dal shed Rs 50 to Rs 3150 while the other was quoted at Rs 3300, beetle chana shed Rs 50 to Rs 3050 and other type was marked at Rs 3075 while low type was seen at Rs 2925 unchanged, Irri-6 Sindh low type retreated by Rs 10 to Rs 2170 while the other type was put at overnight level. Elsewhere chemical (per kg) N.J Taiwan rose by Rs 3.60 to Rs 151, Oxalic acid China retreated by Rs 6 to Rs 72 and citric acid China shed Rs 1 to Rs 79, petroleum jelly PVA Japan closed higher by Rs 5 to Rs 201, Hydrosulphate China 88 pc scaled up by Rs 2.50 to Rs 77, abd Germany's gained Rs 5 to Rs 88, acetic acid Taiwan shed Rs 2 to Rs 86 and Korea was down Rs 3.60 to Rs 80.
ON THURSDAY, DYES NAPHTHOLS CHINA (PER POUND): AS 100 percent was quoted at Rs 150, AS 80 percent was quoted at Rs 130 and ASBS 100 percent was quoted at Rs 180.
Golden Yellow X GL2 250 percent moved lower by Rs 5 at Rs 215, Red X GRL 250 percent edged higher by Rs 5 at Rs 215 and Blue X GRL 250 percent finished downward by Rs 5 at Rs 245.
Some variations were observed on the Jodia as Pineapple: Thaipine (per tin) 3 kg was quoted at Rs 190, Thaipine 565gm closed lower by Rs 20 at Rs 820, Polac moved down by Rs 20 at Rs 820, Euro Broken was quoted at Rs 810.
Modest decline was seen on the grain market on Thursday as supply improved in process of trading, dealers said.
On the cereal side, Makai low type was lower by Rs 185 to Rs 1725 and better type followed suit and lost Rs 200 to Rs 1750. Masoor Australia, however, gained Rs 150 to Rs 5850, dal Masoor Canada quoted higher at Rs 6800, sugar prices slipped by Rs 50 to Rs 2050-2300.
Slow demand pushed the prices down in the rice sector as Irri-6 Sindh inferior type fell by Rs 30 to Rs 2200 and good type was up by Rs 50 to Rs 2250, Irri white shed Rs 40 to Rs 1750-1760 during the lacklustre activity.
On Saturday, on the seed side, cottonseed oilcake with bag Sindh gained Rs 20 to Rs 580-620, cottonseed oilcake with bag Punjab low quality was higher by Rs 20 to Rs 670 and good type was up by Rs 25 to Rs 695.
On the rice sector, Irri-6 Sindh inferior type picked up Rs 30 to Rs 2230, while the better type was unchanged at Rs 2250 in process of trading.
