The Institute of Women Development Studies (IWDS) University of Sindh and Women Development Department (WDD) Sindh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Saturday to strengthen the IWDS to educate and train the women of the province.
The MoU was signed by the Secretary WDD, Subhan Memon and Director IWDS Dr Parveen Shah in presence of the caretaker provincial minister for Population Welfare and Women Development, Nadra Panjwani during her meeting with the Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Mazharul Haq Siddiqui at the university campus.
The Minister appreciated efforts of the Sindh University in educating girls of rural areas and for providing research facilities to women scholars.
She highlighted efforts taken by the provincial and Federal governments for education and training of women. The Minister appreciated the performance of criminology and sociology departments of the university and added that the both departments should introduce subjects having aspects of legal, social and gender for the empowerment of the rural women.
Ms Panjwani urged the criminology department to develop liaison with the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Karachi. The Secretary WDD Subhan Memon proposed that the scholars engaged in research under the department of criminology and sociology should contact CPLC for receiving up-to-date data for richness of research.
Under the MoU both IWDS and Women Development department would jointly launch projects for empowerment of the women of the province in sectors leading to economic, academic, legal and political sectors. The WDD from its ADP project "Implementation of Gender Reform Action Plan (Sindh GARP) will provide Rs 0.500 Million to IWDS.
