More than two dozen people injured in poll-related violence in Faisalabad district during Monday polling despite being, what the official said, foolproof security measures in place. However, apart from these violent incidents, polling process in most constituencies completed in by and large peaceful atmosphere.
After exchange of fires between supporters of two political parties in Chak Jhumra, police arrested two supporter of one of the party. During the polling time from 8:00am to 5:00pm the people of the district exercised their right of franchise in the crucial polls that is being dubbed as 'mother of all elections' and overshadowed by violence and fears of rigging.
The turn out in the beginning was very low in Chowk Clock Tower and other city areas, however it picked up momentum in the afternoon. In Chak No 6-JB North of PP-64 constituency, polling process had to halt, when a PPP supporter was seriously injured when PML-Q supporters reportedly attacked supporter of PPP.
In another incident one, Nasir Maseh was injured in a clash between two groups in Tarkhani, and he was shifted to Allied Hospital Faisalabad. In other clashes in Ghaseetpura, Barkatpura and 107-JB, Eid Gah Islamia Girls College some 19 persons injured, most of them are supporter of PPP.
