Voters want peace, resolution of problems

People hailing from different walks of life who cast their votes in the general elections here on Monday expressed optimism that the elected governments which will emerge at federal and provincial levels will strive for maintenance of law and order and solution of problems confronting the countrymen.
Renowned psychiatrist Professor Dr Haroon Rashid Chaudhry who cast his vote at Shadman polling station told Business Recorder that 'today is a defining moment in the country's history, as people want peace, tolerance and prosperity'. He said there was no dearth of talent in the country and hopefully, people would elect honest and committed people. Every countrymen want peace and prosperity in the country, he added.
He hoped that the country would come out from present uncertain situation and new era of progress and prosperity would start. He also said that the elected representatives would work for the betterment of the country.
A housewife, Ms Farrukh Naz, who cast her vote at a polling station set up at the office of chief engineer highway, Lake road, told this scribe that she expect that the newly elected government would take steps on emergent basis to check escalating price hike. She added that price hike of essential items had made the lives of salaried class people miserable. She said hike in prices of wheat flour; ghee, electricity shortage and other essential items had created problems for the people.
A local businessman, Ghulam Mustafa, who cast his vote at Mozang High School polling station, hoped that there would be true democracy in the country and outstanding problems confronted to the countrymen are resolved.
He said the new government should concentrate on resolving public issues and give top priority for maintenance of law and order in the country. Moreover, during a survey in the city, the young voters showed great enthusiasm in casting votes. They said they are casting votes for the first time, hence they are overwhelmed because they are now part of the country's parliamentary political process.
