The Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) has rated Unilever Pakistan at the top of its 'Top 25 Companies' for the second consecutive year. In a communication issued on January 22, 2008, the KSE listed the top companies on criteria which included distribution of profit, return on investment, quality of corporate governance and corporate social responsibility.
As many as 13 of the Top 25 companies are multinational companies (MNCs), two of which are Unilever companies, the other one being Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited, the Unilever food company.
Ehsan Malik, Chairman of Unilever Pakistan, said: "We are delighted to be rated the 'Top Company' for the second consecutive year. This is the 19th time that Unilever Pakistan has been included in the 'Top 25' listing, a proof of the sustainability of our people, processes and policies. We have been in business in Pakistan for 60 years.
Each day, millions of people vote with their wallets in favour of our brands. We address all parts of the social pyramid with the broadest distribution footprint. As a result, we are well placed to address the growing aspirations of millions of Pakistanis. We also play a role in raising the standard of reporting and governance. Our 2006 Annual Report was adjudged the best by the South Asia Federation of Accountants, the premier regional accounting body."
Looking ahead, Ehsan said: "Unilever's mission is to add vitality to life. We aim to make people feel good, and look good. Because we meet the everyday needs of people through affordable solutions, our business is less prone to recessionary factors in the economy.
Unilever operates in 150 countries of the world. We have vast experience of operating in tough environments. Opportunities in Pakistan far outweigh the challenges. (The) 165 million population, rising middle class with aspirations fuelled by a vibrant media and improving infrastructure and hence accessibility, renders it an attractive market, As a result, our business is growing--consistently, competitively and profitably. -PR.
