A major reshuffle in the top provincial bureaucracy is expected after the formation of a, new government in the province while the top bureaucrats themselves were worried about their future, in view of the post-election scenario.
Highly placed sources in the Sindh government informed Business Recorder on Thursday that almost all the high-ups of the different ministries were seen busy nowadays sharing views on election results, and seemed worried over their future transfers and postings under the next government.
The unexpected results of February 18 elections, and the landslide victory of opposition parties throughout the country, have made high-ups of different ministries, who used to be thought a close ally of PML (Q)-MQM led government, worried about their future in the next government, sources maintained.
Many of the Sindh Government's officials of BPS-20 and other higher ranks, who were promoted to the next grades or got appointments at different departments during the last government, were busy trying to save themselves from any political revenge, by assuring winning parties of their loyalty, sources revealed.
"It's an hot issue nowadays", a secretary of a department said, requesting anonymity. "Most of us were closing our business rapidly in our respective departments, as we are sure that an array of transfers and postings would erupt in the province after the formation of a new government".
The director of an authority, who was appointed at the post next to his grade during the last government's tenure, and considered to be a close-friend of former chief minister, told Business Recorder that he was planning to go for a long vacation after seeing the poll results.
"I am sure either I would be transferred to any non-functional department or would be directed to report to S&GD till further orders, by the next government", he maintained.
It's a common scenario in the national politics that the government officials -even the Secretaries, deputy and additional secretaries, directors general, directors and deputy directors of different departments and authorities - were used to be transferred and posted as per personal liking and disliking of the political leaders.
Meanwhile, the caretaker government has also completed all its necessary preparations to call back the officials of OPS cadre, working at the posts next to their grades, as per decision of the provincial cabinet, sources maintained.
The caretaker government is also likely to carry out transfers of many top bureaucrats in next few days in connection with the post-election scenario of the province, sources added. In this connection, the Special Chief Secretary for Planning and Development, Ghulam Sarwar Khero has already been transferred on the verge of his retirement date. Nazar Hussein Mahar has been appointed at his slot, while Khero has been asked to report to the Services and General Administration Departments (S&GD).
Meanwhile, many caretaker ministers have also accelerated the transfers and postings of the staff of their respective departments at the eve of their tenure, sources said. The process, they added, was accelerated in recent days, especially due to the removal of the ban on the transfers of government's officials prior to the general elections.
