Central Information Secretary of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Ahsan Iqbal has asked President Pervez Musharraf to fulfil his promise and immediately resign from his post. In an interview with a private TV channel he said President Musharraf had also said that he would resign if the masses rejected his supporting parties.
There is left no other way for him but to resign from his office, he said, adding if he remains in office and tries to create confrontation with the government, the country will plunge into crisis. Ahsan Iqbal said if Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had not been deported, the situation would have been different. He said the government targeted its campaign against PML-N for the survival of PML-Q but despite it the masses voted for PML-N.
He said PML-Q invested huge amount on advertisement but the people did not pay heed to them because they had substandard product. He said, "Our stance is very clear. We faced difficulties during last eight years because of our principled stand. Judicial issue also played important role for our victory in the elections. We highlighted the issue of media therefore the people supported us." To a question Ahsan Iqbal said the US and UK should not intervene in internal matters of the country.
