The members of the Consular Corps have observed with great satisfaction and happiness that the conduct of general elections was held in country, specially in Karachi, within the framework of a satisfactory law and order situation, reports UPP correspondent.
The various diplomats stationed in city, who were following the Foreign Office advice on precautions needed to be taken on polling day by the diplomats and the diplomatic and Consular mission, were pleasantly surprised by the good law and order in city. The foreign observers also visited many polling stations in city and found the situation of law and order as also of polling as very satisfactory.
The members of the Consular Corps also watched with great interest the TV coverage of the elections on polling day. Interestingly one of the largest journalistic team from abroad that came to cover the Pakistan polling day was from brother Muslim country Indonesia. They were also very impressed with the peaceful conduct of the polling on February 18, 2008. They conveyed these feelings and observations in various interviews with TV channels.
The various diplomats in Islamabad and Karachi as also Consular members in Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar are also on record saying they have observed with satisfaction the peaceful conduct of the general elections and the results have also caused both surprise and satisfaction that these have been accepted without reservations by the winning and losing parties.
