The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) has decided, in principle, to nominate Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as the parliamentary leader of the party in the National Assembly.
Sources said that at the meeting of the newly elected members of the National Assembly (MNAs) held with the party President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain where leadership and members are unanimously agreed to nominate former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to be the party parliamentary leader in the Lower House. However, the party would formally announce the decision within couple of days.
Sources also said that majority of PML parliamentarians have suggested the party leadership to be part of a national consensus government and authorised party President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain for maneuvering with other political parties in this regard.
However, some members quoted to be said that they would sit on the opposition benches and make constructive and positive politics instead of desk-thumping.
It was learnt that 39 out of over 40 newly elected MNAs attended the meeting and they were strictly advised not to change their loyalties and face all hardships by sitting on the opposition benches.
Sources said that a unanimous resolution was also passed at the meeting, expressing parliamentarians' confidence on the party President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussian and authorised him to contact other political parties in the post-election scenario.
Among others, PML Secretary-General Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Faisal Saleh Hayat, party provincial chiefs, Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Amir Moqam and Chaudhry Peraiz Elahi attended the meeting. The party has convened meeting of PML Senators on Monday in Islamabad to discuss the political issues.
